Trailer Conventions

I Spit on Your Grave (2010)

The trailer immediately is noticeable as a horror trailer as soon as it begins. The narrative is revealed throughout the trailer, so we know the main plot which will happen in the film. But due to the text throughout such as "Some crimes are so brutal, your only option, that if you survive, is revenge" indicates that the girl is going to commit crimes on the people who done it to her. I like how the plot is revealed but not too much is shown, it grabs viewers attentions and makes them want to see what happens.

Nothing Left to Fear (2014)

The trailer begins with a family moving into their new home. Everything is calm, and seems normal. I like how the trailer gradually increases in speed as the horror begins. It gets the audience to feel comfortable and be unaware that something jumpy is about to appear, then towards the end of the trailer it's extremely jumpy and scary. The building of the pace, gets the audience intrigued to carry on and see more up until it stops at the end. The music also fits in with the trailer as it begins slowly and works it's way up, becoming louder and louder and fits in with the theme. My favorite part is the ending where it stops and goes calm, and then you see a creature and hear it scream loudly.

Mirrors (2008)

This trailer uses extremely quick cuts at the beginning when we are shown a normal family with the man heading off to work. Quickly, this changes and I most like the narrative of the film. For our own horror trailer we have discussed using mirrors so I chose this trailer as it's the film's main narrative story. The trailer shows how the characters look into the mirror and see their reflection, although the reflection leads the character to freak them out as it controls itself. Low key lighting is used near the beginning when the leading male character is taken to a creepy location to check out these mirrors.
